Allen and Sophie Mowery bring together two very different backgrounds and a shared curiosity about people, culture, communication, and the stories found in everyday life. Allen’s work has centered on storytelling and creative media, while Sophie’s career in language and cross-cultural education has taken her into classrooms and communities across three continents.
Together, those perspectives shape Allen & Sophie—a place where stories, ideas, education, culture, and creative work naturally intersect.
About Us
Our paths here haven’t had much in common on paper.
Allen’s professional life has taken a decidedly unconventional route through photography, graphic design, writing, marketing, media production, emergency medicine, construction, and more than a few other detours along the way. As a nationally published photographer, award-winning designer, writer, and creative professional, he has spent much of his career observing people, asking questions, and finding ways to turn what he sees into stories.
Sophie’s path has been more focused, but considerably more international. As a language and cross-cultural educator, she has taught students across three continents—from schoolchildren in Colombia and university students in Thailand to English language learners in the United States. Her work goes beyond teaching vocabulary and grammar; it is rooted in helping people communicate across cultures, build confidence, and find their footing in unfamiliar places.
What those different paths produced is surprisingly complementary. Allen tends to approach the world through stories, images, ideas, and an almost unreasonable curiosity about how things work. Sophie approaches it through language, education, culture, and years spent helping people understand one another across boundaries that aren’t always obvious until you encounter them.
That overlap is where Allen & Sophie began to take shape.
We share a fascination with people, places, ideas, and the countless ways culture influences how we see the world. Sometimes that becomes writing or photography. Sometimes it becomes an educational resource, a creative project, a conversation, or an excuse to learn something neither of us knew yesterday. We don’t feel much need to keep those interests neatly separated.
At its core, Allen & Sophie is simply an extension of that shared curiosity: two different perspectives, brought together by a desire to pay attention, keep learning, and share the things we discover along the way.
